It is so hard to truly work with this material. To use the glass as opposed to being used by it. The material has such a beauty in and of itself its hard to tell when people like your work or is it just the glass. When I try to create "serious" glass art I always try to figure out how to use the glass to convey the things that other materials cannot. The simplest way I have found is to use its ability to transmit light. Light then becomes my metaphor for enlightenment and we get something interesting, usually. Other glass artists do it differently I am sure and each to his own. I am still trying to work out the whole process and it is still really hit or miss. Sometimes its just fun to work with the hot gooey material and let yourself go. Its easy to get caught up in that though as well.
